Own it. Communicate your intentions. Learn. Get better.
Mistakes. We all make them. Some people, more than others and sometimes they go undetected. This week I was asked a question that caught me off guard… “What’s the biggest mistake you’ve made and what changed from that point forward?” Instinctually these are the things about myself that I try to burry in the past, but there is something to be said about exposing and analyzing your biggest mistakes. I’ll pass on divulging the details of my faults, but I can tell you what changed. I changed.
Being self-critical is the best way to grow.
We’ve all been caught up in moments where we make bonehead judgment calls or just blatantly mess up. We start by owning up to it, but what’s next? I’d argue that taking time to break down your mistakes and learning from them is equally as important as the action of admitting fault.
Without taking a step in the wrong direction, we can’t find which path is meant for us.
What I’m trying to say is don’t look at a mistake as a missed opportunity to have been right. Look at a mistake as an opportunity to get better at not doing the same thing wrong, twice. Fact: They happen with and without your approval.
